Title: Update on Rob
Post by: !TTM!Zed on December 17, 2022, 01:28:51 PM
Hi All,

An update on Rob.

Rob went into Cardiff hospital about his foot and they kept him in.

Long story short, he had to get an amputation, he is doing well now.
He doesn't know when he will be released and he needs to get his flat sorted for a wheelchair.
He's been measured up for a wheelchair - should be getting a temporary wheelchair Monday and will be rolling over people if they don't get out of his way.

He's ok with getting a phone call if you want to call him - he brought a laptop and it is no longer working so he will be glad of the distraction.
He apologizes that he can't be on the server due to the laptop going bang but he hopes to be online as soon as he is released.

If there is a problem with the servers - Tommy or Shane are the people to contact.

Very sorry to hear as we spoke of his medical issues recently. I wish him a very speedy recovery from surgery and will keep him in my thoughts. Thank you for the update.

Firstly thank you to peter for making this post at my request, beings i couldnt really face the task of informing members about my situation. About 5 months ago i started getting sores show up on my right leg, but i just ignored them and treated them with savalon cream. Over the next 5 months i started finding if difficult to walk and drive, and like a fool i just ignored the sores and my condition.   It then got to the stage where my sister noticed  how difficult it was for me to walk,so she  forced me to make a doctors apointment.

As sson as the doctor saw my leg he made me an emergency appointment at the vascular clinic in newport, and at that appointmoint i was addmitted into the uiversity hospital in cardiff. My right leg was amputated just above the knee on friday. All went well with the operarion, so its just a case of me putting my best leg forward and going through the recovery procces.  That ofcourse wont stop me playing cod once i return home.  I'm hoping to get moved back to a newort hospital during the xmas period, then ther procces will start to adjust my flat ito cater for me and a wheelchair.  Hopefully i wont have to move but there is that chance, so its just a case of wait and see.    I will be removing one of the servers when its payment is next due, because i dont see any point in keeping 2 anymore due to the lack of member support over the past few years.

many thanks to Mark,Peter, taffy and Tommy plust the other members who still make the effort to play on sunday and monday evenings. Apart from that may i wish you all a happy christmas, and i'll keep you updated regarding my health as and when it happens.

Thank you, Rob, for taking the time to post and let us know about your issues, surgery and recovery process as I am sure it wasn't easy to discuss so soon after the experience. Please know that we are all thinking of you and, apart from a Merry Christmas, wishing you a very speedy recovery, M8.

Thanks Shane mate. Learning to live with only 1 leg is proving to be difficult at the moment, but i hope that will improve when i get a false leg to work with. I'm tying to get 2 temporary ramps fitted on the steps into my flat and bedroom to make things easier for me, beings i cant get in and out of my flat or bedroom without the help of the tenant living above me.  At least i've managed to get rid of my old car before my leg was amputated lol.

In the past week i managed to locate and purchase a nice BMW320D Automatic estate car, so at least i'm not restricted to my flat and wheel chair all the time. Maybe too big and expensive to run and keep long term, but i needed something quickly and that was the only auto car available in the price range i was willing to pay.

I had a plaster cast done of my stump on the 20th, so have to wait 3 or 4 weeks for the fitting and testing to take place. I wont be able to take the leg home until the hospital are happy i'll be safe using it. I did ask one of the staff if i can ride a bike with the leg, but he said no not with a fixed knee leg. However he did say i might get to ride a bike again if and when i get a leg with a flexible knee joint  ;D

Everything is going well Mark now that i have the prospetic leg, but the wet and windy weather has been prevented me from going outside to get more practise using the leg. I dont have a lot of spare room in my flat either to move around in my wheelchair wearing the leg, so at the moment i'm just waiting for some better weather before venturing out with it whilst using a 4 wheeled support frame. I have a mobility scooter as well so i mainly use that whenever i go out to the local shops, beings its far more quicker and easier for me  ;D .
