Does anyone run cod4 on windows 8.1 as I can't get it to install at all :( I've tried all the usual compatibility stuff with no joy.

is that when you click on the disk before installing? if so try running the setup as an administrator... might work? i must admit ive not seen that error message before, rob might know about it, he usually gets me out of the sh*t with this kinda stuff lol
I tried installing from disk and from desktop after copying all contents from the dvd, both were run as admin and windows 7 compatibility mode.
I've spent ages trying to get it to work but I guess it's not gonna :(
I've never tried running cod 4 on windows 8.1, due to it being a power consuming crap version of windows >:(. Have you installed all the patches prior to trying to run it Scott ?, and make sure the microphone jack on your headset is plugged in before trying to run the game online. If all else fails install windows 7 :).
Go to this location on your computer
C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\COD4\pb
Find you PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB applications and make then compatible for windows7 service pack 3 and make the 2 applications run as admin.
It won't install :(
My father just purchased a new desktop pc for himself so I'm gonna get his old dual core, it's ancient but still better than my laptop so after I reinstall windows 7 and cod4 I'll try to jump on server for a few rounds.
Heard others having issues with cod4 and win 8 so I used a Steam version when I had win 8
I managed to somehow install it after messing about for ages then got this message lol

Anyway I copied the dll file from another computer (I know this isn't the best method but dx doesn't want to update any files at all and comes up with yet another error)
I'll jump on server now to see if it working :)
